Boxer (ship) log, 1924.

The Boxer (Ship) Log consists of a chief officer's log book covering the U.S.S. Boxer's voyage from Seattle, Washington, to Point Barrow, Alaska, and return, 28 June through 21 November 1924. The log contains brief daily entries recording weather conditions, position, and notable occurrences. On this voyage, the Boxer, which belonged to the Alaska division of the U.S. Bureau of Education, was under the command of master S. T. L. Whitlam and mate C. Hansen. It stopped at a number of coastal villages to deliver supplies and to pick up and deliver passengers. It also transported reindeer from one place to another, and its crew installed a wireless station at the village of Savoonga on Saint Lawrence Island. Most notably, in the last half of August 1924 the vessel participated in rescue of the crew of the Lady Kindersley, which was caught in the ice 42 miles east of Point Barrow.
